GOLD & GLORY FLASHPOINT 2:
The second method of receiving the fresh water of the Spirit is to become a drinker of the water of the Spirit. In our book “TRUE CHRISTIAN LIVING” on pages 60-64, we described in detail how to become a drinker of the water of God’s Holy Spirit. In natural life, drinking is a spontaneous response to the natural thirst we experience in our bodies. Nothing motivates us to drink water like a strong thirst.
I recall the days I spent in the military in South Africa as a young man. At times during our tough training exercises, we had to ration our supply of water and had to survive on just a couple of military water bottles for several days in the summer heat. When we finally returned to the military base from the woods, everyone was so thirsty that we went straight for the water and could not stop drinking for a while. We were truly parched!
However, here is what I call the law of drinking. No drinking or sustained effort of drinking is possible without a robust thirst. We have a perfect parallel here between natural and spiritual thirst. As I wrote on page 60 of “True Christian Living,” spiritual appetite, spiritual hunger and spiritual thirst are crucial and indispensable motivations in all the operations and activities of the born-again human spirit. After reading this newsletter, pick up our TRUE Christian Living book and revisit pages 60-64, specifically to refresh your mind on the great value of a strong spiritual appetite.
This is the power of TRUE Christianity… the power of spiritual thirst. Many Christians are always praying for new revivals and new outpourings of God’s Spirit and that is commendable. However, the reason why the Holy Spirit churches today are dry and weary is not because we have not had enough fresh outpourings from the Lord. Oh no, the Church around the world is dry because we have failed to develop the passion of spiritual thirst for the rain and the water of the Spirit of God over the past several years.
If you make a study of drinking throughout the Word of God, you will find that as far back as the book of Deuteronomy, God began to offer fresh water to the people of God. After the initial promise of fresh natural water, the Lord began to promise Israel the spiritual water of God and the experiencing of God’s presence.
The greatest prayer you can pray for any Christian person is for the Lord to impart a new and fresh thirst in their spirit and mind for the fresh waters of God’s Spirit. Here are the simple power and logic of thirst… when you possess a real thirst for either natural or spiritual water, the response and results are always… that at the POINT you become… A DRINKER OF THE WATER… be it spiritual or natural… YOU “DEVELOP” MORE AND MORE OF A THIRST!
Help us, Lord, please… because the greatest need in the Church today is for a new and powerful thirst for God’s Spirit, yes for the water of His Holy Spirit. AMEN
He who has an ear, let him hear what the SPIRIT says to the Church.
