REFRESHING!
Refreshing is one of those essential things of life. Refreshing, in addition to refreshing our bodies, is also needed for our soul man―as well as for our spirit man.
Natural refreshing for the body is simple and easy. Just drink some liquids, preferably water or if it’s cold outside, some coffee, or tea. The natural appetite of the brain will always let you know when you need refreshing in your body. When we are thirsty, we simply act on that natural need and have a refreshing drink.
GOLD & GLORY FLASHPOINT 1:
- Apart from a refreshing for our body, for us as Christians, there is a refreshing available to us inside our born-again human spirits. In 2 Corinthians 4:16, the Apostle Paul says that although the body is deteriorating with time, to the contrary, our spirit can be refreshed and renewed on a daily basis. As people, we are NOT able to pick up the spiritual senses of our spirit man in our mind or in our body. We do NOT physically feel a physical thirst or hunger in our spirit. It is not tangible. Yet, it is very real.
- From time to time, we may be aware of an inward hunger or thirst, so we begin to seek the Presence of the Lord for a refreshing or rejuvenation of our spirits.
- Thus, we see that it IS possible that our spirit man may be refreshed and renewed on a daily basis. This is ONE reason why a relationship with Holy Spirit is SO important. The MORE we fellowship with Holy Spirit in our spirits, the MORE refreshing and renewing of our spirits will take place through Holy Spirit, Himself!
- Fellowship with Holy Spirit means to share the deep things of your heart with Him on a daily basis. That does NOT mean that Holy Spirit will talk to you every day. However, we should be talking to Him every day. Since we walk by faith and NOT by our senses, we are assured by the Apostle Paul that regardless of NOT hearing the voice of the Lord every day, He will STILL QUICKEN and REFRESH our spirit, every day. The secret about spiritual REFRESHING is to simply pour your heart out into Holy Spirit’s Heart, where He lives inside your spirit! This action is one of THE greatest things we can do as a child of God. This is PURE FELLOWSHIP!
- In chapter 4 of our book entitled, TRUE Christian Living, we took a great deal of time, through the help of Holy Spirit, to teach the Church HOW to discover a relationship with Holy Spirit, and then HOW to practice that in real life―every day! If we should fail to do this, we will lose that excitement, energy, and strength of our inward spirit man. The hard part here is NOT the teaching itself, although it takes some time to process through it. The difficulty regarding Christians fellowshipping with Holy Spirit is that most Christians simply lack the desire to pursue a relationship with Holy Spirit inside their spirit. How do we receive that hunger or passion for Holy Spirit? It is very simple. Besides sharing your heart with Him every day, keep asking Him to pour MORE hunger and desire for Holy Spirit, Himself, into our born-again spirits.

GOLD & GLORY FLASHPOINT 2:
- Now, let’s take a brief look at the soul man. Firstly, the soul is NOT the spirit. The soul is NOT connected to the spirit man. There is NO interaction taking place between the born-again human spirit and the soul man of every Christian. The soul, like the body, is intellectual―but it is also flesh. The soul lives in the brain. Consequently, the soul possesses the same sinful, fleshly nature of the body.
- In Acts 3:19, Peter mentions “refreshing” for the soul man. As the onlookers at the temple were in a state of shock due to the miracle which they had just witnessed, Peter capitalized on this miracle event. He spoke to all the Jews standing around admiring the miracle and told them that the lame man was healed by the power of Christ the Messiah. Here, Peter reminded them of their guilt because two years before the lame man was healed at the gate of the temple, those Jewish people were some of the same ones who rejected Jesus as Messiah and had Him crucified. But here is new and fresh hope. Peter said to them, it is not too late for you, you can still make a turn around by now believing in Christ to receive Him as your true Messiah.
- Then Peter said to them, “repent and be converted (or born again), that your sins may be blotted out, so that TIMES of refreshing may come from the Presence of the Lord.” The refreshing of the soul man is EQUALLY important to the refreshing of the body and the spirit. In fact, sometimes the refreshing of the soul is even MORE important. When we are down emotionally and we feel there is no hope for us and the circumstances of life have overwhelmed us, it is not the end of it! Then it is time to reach out to the Lord and ask Him for that refreshing of your soul man. Ask Him to touch your emotions, and your intellect, and as David said, “Lord, please restore my soul.”
- Through adverse and difficult circumstances over time, the strength and hope of the soul man may simply be crushed. Many people, including Christians, have reached this point of hopelessness and despair—even many times during a long life lived on the earth. But thank God there is REFRESHING for our broken emotions and the pain that is in our self-person that seeks to daily torment us with guilt and hopelessness.
- How do we receive refreshing for the soul? We go before the Lord and repent so that our sins may be blotted out. Of course these are the sins of the body and soul. Obviously, there is NO sin in your spirit man. But here we follow the same instructions which Paul gave to the Jews on that day. Repent, but also change your ways, that is your lifestyle, your attitude, your handling of people and circumstances around you. Then, sit back and say, “Lord, I know my spirit man is being renewed day after day, but my soul has grown weary, to the point of despair. I ask you, Lord, to refresh my soul, to pour a living flow of your Presence and Anointing into my soul.” And once you have prayed, sit back, relax, put on some real anointed worship music, and just sit there and breathe deeply…and with every breath you take…you thank the Lord for pouring fresh anointing into your soul…so that it may REFRESH your SOUL and bring a NEWNESS and FRESHNESS to all that is in your MIND.
At this point, life changes!
What was dark and gloomy now becomes a new hope, a new trust, a new excitement, and also everything suddenly becomes
a fresh breath of life.
Do this…in your spirit, in your soul, and in your body…and you will be REFRESHED by the Lord’s love, power, and endless source of energy and strength. Thank you, and God bless you!
